What Is Dental Zirconia?
Dental zirconia is a polycrystalline zirconium oxide (ZrO₂), an advanced ceramic material stabilized with yttrium oxide. Thanks to this structure, it possesses mechanical properties that make it superior to traditional ceramics: it is fracture-resistant, corrosion-resistant, does not cause adverse biological reactions, and ensures long-term stability in the oral cavity.
Unlike feldspar ceramics, zirconia can be used in monolithic structures or as a substructure for layered restorations, covering a wide range of clinical applications, from single crowns to extensive bridges, and from the anterior to the posterior regions.

KEROX is a Hungarian company with over 40 years of experience in precision ceramic manufacturing. With more than 600 employees and 38 engineers dedicated to development, it produces over 80 million high-precision ceramic components annually for various industrial sectors.
In 2010, the company launched a division dedicated to dental-grade zirconia, applying the same technological rigor to dental manufacturing as it does to its core business.
KEROX zirconia is produced through a six-step, well-coordinated process:
Mixing Powders
Pure, very high-quality raw materials with a controlled composition: ZrO₂ up to 94.3%, stabilized with Y₂O₃ and minimal traces of Al₂O₃ (<0.25%)
Axial compression
Initial compaction of the raw material using more than 20 dedicated presses
Cold Isostatic Pressing (CIP)
It evens out the density of the disc across its entire cross-section, eliminating internal variations that could compromise the milling process
Pre-sintering
The raw material is brought to the ideal consistency for CAD/CAM processing; Kerox calculates the shrinkage factor for each individual product, making the milling and final sintering process predictable and repeatable
Evaluation, Testing, and Measurements
Each batch is tested in our in-house CAD/CAM milling laboratory; the strength and translucency data are certified by independent third-party laboratories (FKG GmbH, Germany)
Packaging and Delivery
with full traceability: lot numbers and serial numbers stored in a database for future claims management
The system is certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 13485:2016, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 50001:2018. A lifetime warranty on quality is provided for crowns and abutments made with ZIRCOSTAR® discs.
Product Line: Types of KEROX Zirconia
High-Strength Zirconia (HS)
Recommended for complex structures, large bridges, and cases requiring the highest mechanical properties. It is the ideal choice for posterior regions and for underlying structures with ceramic layering.
High-translucency zirconia (HT, HTL)
Designed for monolithic restorations with high aesthetic quality. Its advanced translucency allows for the creation of crowns and anterior restorations that mimic the natural transparency of tooth enamel, without the need for layering.
Multilayer zirconia
It features a gradual gradient in color and translucency along the axis of the block. It allows for the creation of natural optical effects with a single milling operation, reducing processing time and ensuring a distinct aesthetic result between the cervical and incisal areas.
CAD/CAM Solutions
The entire KEROX line is available in formats compatible with the leading CAD/CAM milling systems, enabling fast, precise machining that can be integrated into the laboratory’s digital workflow.
Clinical Applications
KEROX zirconia is suitable for a wide range of prosthetic restorations, in both the anterior and posterior regions:
- Single crowns in the anterior and posterior regions;
- Bridges (including extended bridges, on natural teeth or implants);
- Monolithic structures with optional layering;
- Veneers and anterior cosmetic restorations;
- Inlays, onlays, and complex conservative restorations.
